Are the Board of Realtors sabotaging real estate distance education in Washington?

Posted by trainagents on April 28th, 2008

“Our full Washington membership supports our efforts to limit the number of distance education clock hours agents/brokers can take for license renewal and for Broker License. They want to go back into the classroom!”

That’s a paraphrase of W.A.R.’s spokesman testifying before a closed meeting with the Washington D.O.L. Education Committee last month. I don’t know about you, but he is NOT speaking for me on this issue. I, like you, spent 15 years struggling to squeeze in classroom clock hours juggling my clients, my life and being locked away from both! Internet delivery courses provide the convenience.

Recently we were alerted by a competitor real estate school and others that the Washington Senate was about to vote on changes to the RCW’s and an oblique and suble sentence had been added which stated:

“…the Director shall have the power to limit distance education hours…”!!!???

Train Agents, Inc. promptly sent out an email notice to over 20,000 licensed real estate agents and brokers in Washington State alerting them to this development. In the notice we published the names, email addresses and phone numbers of the sponsoring Senators. The sponsoring Senators received so many emails and phone calls from you that the line item was removed from the language and sent back to the Senator floor for debate. Subsequent to that a special, unannounced and closed meeting of the D.O.L. education committee was convened and only one individual “testified”, the W.A.R. spokesman, claiming that W.A.R.’s 20+ thousand members wanted to have their ability to take their courses via distance education limited!!?? Is that true? Do you want to be thrown back into the dark ages of real estate education? We want to hear from you on this subject. Email me at jane@trainagents.com and let me know your thoughts on this.

If we don’t start speaking up NOW we can lose our ability to take our courses online. Speak up!
